“Nantou County History Hall (NCHH)”, formerly planned and arranged by “Department of NCHH Planning ”, was officially unveiled in December 1997. The “921 Earthquake” heavily damaged the building in 1999. Through a 1-year-long repair and construction, it again unveiled in October 2001.
The main installation of the NCHH is Wu-de Temple, a more-than-60-year-old structure built in 1937 when Taiwan was one of Japan’s colonies. It was a stadium for policemen to practice kendo and judo then. Afterward, taken over by People’s Government, it was used as Police Department, Bureau of Upland Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Employee’s Cooperative, and Bureau of Environmental Protection, successively.
Its Tang-look-like style is a unique combination of Sino style from northern mainland and Japan’s from the east. Its roof depicts an elegant streamline, and the heightened foundation reflexes it extraordinary momentum.
