“Triangular hole weaving vase” by Chang Xien-Ping. This piece starts with a triangular hole woven base. After reaching the desired width, the strips are folded upward and woven into the body; vector-patterned bamboo strips are inserted twilly into the body both for ornamentation and reinforcement. Lastly it is rounded off with rotary-style edges and a wicker circular foothold. This piece consists mainly of triangular hole weaving; the twill bamboo strips and surrounding ornaments present the alternating spaces between illusion and reality. Master Chang has worked hard to promote the craft of bamboo weaving, and devotedly teaches this traditional art to his students. Therefore in 1990, he was awarded the sixth “Folk Art Award” at the age of 47, who happens to be the youngest recipient that has ever existed.
