 “Descendent of the bamboo dragon” by Qien Zhong-Zhi. The artist uses the round top and square bottom contour to express the ancient Chinese philosophy that “the sky is round, and the earth is square.” He also uses the octagonal image of the Eight Trigrams , to represent the ancient philosophies developed by the observing of nature. Dragons are mystical creatures that can ride on clouds and mists; they are also a symbol of power and status. Between heaven, earth, and nature, humans make the most of life’s vibrancy to reach their ideals. This piece utilizes moso bamboo’s natural shape and hollow sculpting to complete such a deep symbolic piece of art, which surpasses the work of artists from the past!
