“Fish-shaped stationery set” by Liu Wen-Huang. By incorporating traditional craft and functional beauty, Mr. Liu combines the design of sunrise and flying fish using the carbonized fibers of moso bamboo that’s found only in Asia. This piece combines the practical functionality and essence of beauty. Two bronze rods are also used to represent civilization and nobility. Fish is symbolic for “excess”, indicating prosperity. The box is designed with a trough for storing business cards; the square hole on the portable cardholder is inspired by Chinese antique coins. The deep, seed-shaped holes exhibit elegant patterns. The round trough can be used to store crystal balls. Designed by Chang Wen-Shin and produced by Da-he bamboo factory, this inter-industrial collaboration presents the “truth”, “goodwill”, and “beauty” of Taiwanese bamboo crafts through innovation and intricate craft skills for the world to witness the cultural value of Taiwanese bamboo artistry.
