This is also called the “fridge” or “cat temptation” in the ancient days. Before the age of refrigerators, fish and meat needed to be stored during festive seasons. Bamboo hanging-baskets are convenient and have good ventilation, therefore they were suitable for storing leftovers. In ancient buildings, there were no screen doors or windows; cats and dogs entered freely into the kitchen. When they passed under hanging-baskets filled with food, they could smell but not reach the food, therefore hanging-baskts are also called “cat temptations”. A hanging basket usually comes with an inner basket that is slightly smaller and forms a barrier inside the hanging basket to increase storage room. It also comes with a lid to keep out the dust or insects. There are many types and weaving methods of traditional hanging-baskets. Most often seen are the three-ply and star-shaped weaving. This
piece starts with a star-shaped base; the strips used in the abdomen of the basket are thinner, and weaving was more time-consuming. It is a quality kitchenware. Usage in modern living spaces includes storage, fruit basket, and vase.
