The gratitude vase is also called filling vase. Makino bamboo is split into thin strips and intricately woven into the vase. Its diameter is around one foot; the handles are made with multiple bamboo strips bent into ㄇ shape and secured with wicker. Wicker rings can be used to handle the vase or strung onto the carrying pole. When used alone, one can hold onto the handles directly.
In ancient times, the gratitude vase was used during weddings. The bottom layer usually stores beetle nuts, and the top layer stores cigarettes. The groom and bride hold the vase together to greet guests. Today it is used as a vase or ornament, while some people also use it to store food offerings including noodles with pork hock, the three animal offerings, and assorted fruits during birthdays or worship.
