  "Batongguan Historic Trail" is Taiwan the first cross-highway, which development is that the Qing Dynasty focus on the savage education functions of aboriginals pacifying policy. In 1874 (the 13th year of Qing Tongzhi) after Japan sent troops to Taiwan launched the "Peony Society event", the Qing Dynasty dispatched Fujian Minister of Shipping, Shen Bao-zhen for patrol inspection and rehabilitation, in view of the importance of Taiwan status, Shen Bao-zhen called for the royal approved "Reclamation Hills to build the road and Pacify aboriginals", divided into the north, central and south into three roads to cut into the central mountains to the eastern part of the road, cut through the front and rear mountains barrier. Among them, the General Soldiers chief, Wu, Guang-liang is responsible for leading the Flying Tigers three-battalion soldiers to open up the "Central Road", which is today called "Batongguan Historic Trail".
  "Batongguan Historic Trail" respectively from Lin Po Po (now the Zhushan, Nantou) and Sang Liao (Zhushan Town Northeast) both lands started the construction, and then connection to the Tai Ping Ding combined to be one pathway; then cross through the Big water cave, Top city, Phoenix Mountain, Ma Po, Namakawan, East Po, Batongguan mountain, Big water cave, across the central mountain ridge, along the LakulaKu river toward the east, reached Hualien stone Pavilion (now Yuli), 152.64 km in total length.
  After Yushan National Park was established, began to repair some sections of hiking trails; which there are a large numbers of stone steps from the eastern part of the Moko Tuo River to the blue bass, along the pathway there are barren camp, camp old site and ceramic debris; due to inaccessible, wild animals shuttle Forest, rare trees are visible everywhere, it is the only one surviving relics among the opened three trails in Qing Dynasty. In 1987, the Ministry of the Interior Officially promulgated to rank the Qing Dynasty “Batongguan Historic Trail” as a national monument, is nowadays the only one national historic site in Nantou County.
  As a result of the construction of “Batongguan Historic Trail”, along the pathway left behind there are many pieces of commemorative steles about the road building and aboriginals pacifying, and currently the survivors are: "Main access over ten thousand years" stele, “Open up rough mountains“, "Ferry Forbidden sign" and "Virtue covering all around the mountain corners" monuments.
