  In the early years of the Qing Dynasty, the Nantou area was located in the mountain inside and was developed relatively late, the cultural and educational undertakings were not developed well, at that time, only two schools as Nantou Club and Beizheng Club that ever described in the "Taiwan history revision” written by Yu Wen-yi. The two schools are based on the purpose to teach the aboriginal children who complied with the Qing Dynasty, however, because where also acted as the ordinary school, thus became the Han and Aborigines mixed school. Until to 24th year of Qianlong (1759), after set up the position as Nantou county magistrate's assistant, this region development made just be of great progress. Therefore, during Jiaqing, Daoguang years, the Han people made daily progress on ground exploration in this region and generally completed it ready, the education was also followed for peaking, in the11th year of Qing Emperor Daoguang dynasty (1831), therefore just in Nantou area had the first one academy - the Lantian Academy for creating.
  Lantian Academy also known as Wenchang Temple, Nantou Residents called it to be Confucius Temple. Named "Lantian" is to take "Tree people no special kind of jade" meaning, hoping to cultivate local children to be more outstanding.
  Lantian Academy experienced several relocation & renovation, at the end of Taisho 4th year (1915), the current site Wenchang St., Chongwen Village, Nantou City reconstruction completed, where is a three-courtyard building, inner stone pillars, antique; the big hall dedicated to the main god Wenchang emperor, secondary worship Ziyang Master, the rear hall dedicated to the Kuan statues etc.. During Tongzhi years the ancient plaque "Heaven article balance", "Civilization Meteorology ", "Victory article" and so on hanging in the temple, is the most valuable cultural relics of the academy. In 1985, it was officially approved by the Ministry of the Interior as the national third-class historic site.
